Discord fonts vs. Markdown
Discord already supports Markdown in messages: **bold**, *italic*, __underline__, ~~strikethrough~~ and # headings. Markdown doesn’t work in nicknames, server names or channel names, and that’s where Unicode styles help, because they’re plain text that Discord displays as-is.
Good to know
- Channel names are lowercased by Discord, so styles that rely on capital letters may change.
- Mentions and search match plain letters, so friends may not find a fancy nickname by typing it. Keep part of your name plain.
- Some servers ban fancy nicknames with moderation bots. Check the server rules first.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Discord font generator free?
Yes. It’s free and works in your browser on desktop and mobile.
Can I use these fonts in my Discord username?
Discord usernames only allow lowercase letters, numbers, periods and underscores. Use fancy text in your display name or server nickname instead.
Why do some characters show as boxes?
Rare symbols aren’t in every device’s fonts. Most styles here use widely supported characters, but check how it looks on mobile and desktop.
